Do the other thing
I want you to be better. I want you to be happier. I want you to put your head on the pillow every night and think to yourself “I can’t imagine how things can get any better.” And then I want you to say the same thing the next night and the night after that. I want you to be confident, capable, and generous in a way that makes other people feel inspired rather than jealous. And I want you to do all of those things sooner rather than later. You certainly could. In fact I bet you can think of a quite a things right now that would move you down that path. Some of those things even align with your current lifestyle and view of the world. Get some more sleep, add some exercise, eat more green things. But I would also wager that something on that list scares you a little bit. At least one thing on that list makes you uncomfortable in a way that makes it seems unreasonable ot consider that kind of change. Whether it’s because we have always done things “this way” and doing it “that way” is terrifying or because “everyone would think you were crazy” or maybe you just don’t see yourself as one of “those people.” But the truth is that some of the most dramatic changes come from doing that thing that runs counter to our deepest beliefs. Science, technology, medicine, art, the examples are inexhaustible of those people who decided one day that the way things are doesn’t have to be the way things are. Are you weak? Are you in pain? Are you fat? Are you tired? Are you tired of being weak, or in pain, or fat, or tired? Then let’s change it. Let’s make the way things are different than the way things were. What is that thing that could be a game changing shift for you if you were willing to go all in? What have you go to lose at this point? You have been doing things a certain way for a long time and they got you here. Let’s try to do it a different way and see where that takes us. And this is true for even those healthy habits. Have you tried anything new in your training? In your diet? In your recovery? If not why not? And if not now, when?
